Awakening Hope

Churches United for Berlin’s Homeless

Berlin’s homelessness crisis is the giant elephant in the room — urgent, visible, yet often unspoken. This project seeks to mobilize the churches of Berlin, starting with international congregations, to respond with faith, compassion, and active participation.

We invite churches to combine compassionate care with courageous advocacy — addressing immediate needs while fostering structural change to tackle the root causes of inequality and displacement.

We encourage the people and institutions of Berlin to partner with faith-driven initiatives in addressing homelessness holistically, through housing, healthcare, employment, and community support. Lasting transformation requires shared effort, thoughtful policy, and a commitment to leave no one behind.

Together, we can build a Berlin of justice, compassion, and belonging — a city where everyone has a home, hope, and a place in the community.

➡️ Current status:

  • Praying with people from different churches about this

  • Sharing this initiative with others, awakening people to view this crisis

Phase 1: Invitation to the International Churches

The first step focuses on the international churches in Berlin. As immigrants, we are not only residents of this city but also stewards with a moral and spiritual responsibility to contribute to the welfare of the community that hosts us.
This initiative draws a parallel between churches and the homeless community:

  • Just as we, as immigrants, have received from Germany, we are called to give back.

  • Likewise, as the homeless receive help, they too are encouraged to rediscover dignity through participation and contribution.

This phase emphasizes both compassion and empowerment—building bridges of understanding and service between the church and the streets.

Phase 2: Expanding Through Cultural Networks

Members of international churches will extend this vision to their broader cultural and linguistic communities. For example:

  • Turkish believers can engage the Turkish churches for prayer and involvement.

  • Arabic believers can reach out to Arabic churches to join hands in action.

This cross-cultural ripple effect strengthens unity in diversity and allows the movement to grow organically through trusted relationships.

Phase 3: Partnership with German Churches and Organizations

The project will collaborate closely with German churches and existing local organizations already experienced in addressing homelessness. Rather than duplicating efforts, this movement aims to initiate, connect, and amplify—uniting the spiritual and practical resources of the Body of Christ toward one common cause.

Goal

To inspire a city-wide movement of churches—international and local alike—that not only acknowledges the homelessness crisis but also actively participates in bringing hope, transformation, and community restoration to Berlin — working together toward a city where homelessness becomes a thing of the past.
