Go on
“Christianity is not a modern success story. It is to be preached with love and tears into the teeth of men, preached without compromise, without regard to the world's concept of success. If there seem to be no results, remember that Jeremiah did not see the results in his day. They came later. If there seem to be no results, it does not change God's imperative. It is simply up to you and to me to go on, go on, whether we see the results or whether we don't. Go on.” — Death in the City, Francis A. Schaeffer
This is the 51st weekly prayer:
Dear Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit,
I praise You for who You are; there is no selfishness in You. You are love.
Help us reveal self-destructive thoughts to those who are deceived and lost, and point them to the only hope, which is You. Help us preach the Gospel not with formulated arguments or systematic information, but humble us so that the power of the Gospel may continue to transform us and shine through us.
Dear Lord, I ask that all Christians in this city will gain a deeper understanding of “to live is Christ, and to die is gain,” and also know that we no longer live for ourselves. Our old selves must die; help us deny ourselves, pick up the cross, and follow You on and on and on.
Give us the strength to endure, even if we might not see the outcome with our own eyes in our days. Still, please give us the grace to trust in what is unseen and believe that You have placed us here and now for Your divine purpose. It is for You and through You to demonstrate how You transformed and continue to renew and transform those who were once lost, but are now found; were blind, but now see Your glory.
In Your holy name, I pray and receive,
Amen
